Further development of your association

Sustainability

Forming an association is one thing, but making it last is another. Organisational sustainability requires a lot of work, dedicated staff and resources to make the strategic plan a reality. This section will give you guidance on the steps needed to make your organisation a sustainable entity.

Forming departments

When an organisation grows, staff members take on specific roles and departments get formed. Each department has its own goals that support the organisation's overall mission. In this section, you will find examples of organisational structures and ways that associations divide their staff into departments.

Affiliate organisations

At times, departments can grow so large that they become their own entities. This is when organisations form affiliate organisations that function as separate entities, with their own mission, but still support the overall mission of the organisation. Affiliate organisations can also be acquired when organisations merge.

Global outreach

Through improvements in communications, the world is becoming more and more international. Associations often form partnerships with regional and global organisations to stay connected to the latest innovations as well as to issues that affect everyone. This section talks about the leadership role that organisations can take on a global scale, as well as the part that Global Action Networks play.

Conclusion

As hospice and palliative care organisations around the world pursue a joint mission to improve service provision at the end of life for all, despite the challenges, open communication and the exchange of information and resources will enhance their voice and provide pathways to sustainability. Associations around the world can work collectively in advocating for palliative care to be integrated into the continuum of health care.
